‘THE SEEKER OF THE LOST’ ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
On 18 February, we honour the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos ‘Seeker of the Lost’ (17th century).
The image in the photo is the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos ‘Seeker of the Lost’ in our Convent’s church of St Nicholas the Wonderworker.
The icon was acquired by a doctor in an antique shop. As it was in poor condition, the doctor brought it to our icon restoration studio to be restored.
The restorers got down to bringing the icon back to life - they cleaned its surface layer, removed the deposits of lacquer, glued and strengthened the paint layer.
While the icon was undergoing restoration, the doctor got into a difficult life situation. He began to fervently pray to the Mother of God, and Her grace-filled help came to him. Everything worked out for the best exactly on February 18, the Feast day of the ‘Seeker of the Lost’ Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos!
As a token of gratitude to the Mother of God for Her miraculous help, the doctor donated the restored icon to our Convent so that people could come to St Nicholas Church and turn to the Queen of Heaven, asking for Her intercession and protection.
